Great article! Thank you!

On CentOS 5.2 I had to use the following in /etc/sysconfig/rsyslog for the service to properly start.

SYSLOGD_OPTIONS="-r -t514 -m 0"

This isn't changed in RHEL5 either. I would like (and have a bug or two open with RH) to see rsyslog rebased to the 3.x series if for nothing else than the ability to do encrypted logging to a central server. There's a fairly substantial amount of information you can get about a machine just by reading the logs.

CentOS 5.2 only has v2.0.0 of rsyslogd whereas the latest stable build from Rainer is 3.20.4. So far I'm finding that v2.0.0 does not support -c3 or -t at startup.
